Alzheimer's Disease Support Group
Senior Services offers a number of different support groups that help citizens cope with problems and concerns through educational speakers, group therapy, and individual counseling. One such program is the Alzheimer's Caregivers support group. This program, targeted for senior citizens, seeks to bring together families of Alzheimer patients to share experiences, thoughts, coping methods, and ideas regarding the day-to-day care of patients with Alzheimer's Disease or other similar disorders. Groups are mediated by trained personnel who lead discussion, provide information, and coordinate activities and events, which include social functions, speakers, and field trips. The group meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month at Lakeview Senior Center located on 20 Lake Road, from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.  Participation is open to family and friends of Alzheimer's patients, and is confidential and free of charge. Topics of discussion have included physical and medical concerns, resources for thorough medical and neurological examinations, methods for coping with the patient's memory loss, ways of dealing with family member stress, and community services that may be of benefit to the patient and family. For more information, contact (949) 724-6926 or The Alzheimer's Association, Orange County Chapter at (800)272-3900.

Medicare and Medicaid Programs
Medicare and Medicaid are joint federal and state programs that help to provide medical care for eligible senior, disabled, or needful citizens. Medical assistance eligibility is based mainly on eligibility for Social Security. These programs help pay charges for hospitalization, stays in skilled nursing facilities, physicians' charges, and some associated health costs. There are limitations on the length of stay and type of care. For more information about  Medicare or Medicaid, please call 1-800-633-4227, or visit their website at www.medicare.gov
