Alcohol Use At City Facillities/Parks

Alcohol is allowed in certain City facilities and at parks available for reservation. An Alcohol Permit, ABC License, Security, Insurance, and a Certified Bartender may be required. Athletic Field Reservations

 

The City's Athletic Services section manages some of the most beautiful sports facilities in Southern California.  The staff coordinates an allocation process and reservations of both City-owned and Irvine Unified School District sports fields.  These fields are used by many Irvine youth sports organizations, adult leagues sponsored by the City of Irvine and private reservations from the public for various athletic events.

Available Fields

Fields are available (lighted and unlighted) throughout Irvine via advanced reservation by calling (949) 724-6661.  While most athletic fields are reserved nightly for youth and adult league play, a limited number of athletic fields are available during the week between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.  These fields can be reserved for a fee, or they can be used for walk-on groups if a field is not reserved to another group. 

 

Reservation Fees

Fees vary by type of field, intended use and hours.  All lighted field use, organized games and tournaments for youth and adult events must have an approved reservation.

Walk-on Field Use

Pick-up games and walk-on games can be played on the fields on a first-come, first-served basis.  Pick-up games and walk-on games may not have formal referees, uniforms, or in any way be representative of a formal game.  However, if a field is allocated to a group or a group with a paid reservation arrives, the walk-on group must vacate the field. 

 

Open Reservation Period

Sports fields are scheduled year-round for City of Irvine programs, Irvine and Tustin Unified School District programs and nonprofit Irvine-based youth sports organizations.  Availability is limited for other reservations, but reservation requests are welcomed.  Reservations for spring/ summer use may be requested beginning January 2nd each year and fall/ winter reservations may be requested beginning July 1st.  Deposits, fees and liability insurance are required for most reservations.

Basketball - Adult Leagues

Irvine Adult Sports

Bommer Canyon

Bommer Canyon is a rustic, former Cattle Camp and a wonderful setting for special events such as parties, company picnics, weddings, family reunions and campouts.  The fifteen-acre facility includes picnic-tables sheltered by a lush sycamore canopy, a covered stage area, a barbeque pit, a large Chuck Wagon suitable for food preparation and service, a sand volleyball court, horseshoe pits, a fire ring, and lots of open space.  For availability, pricing information or to make a reservation call the City's Facility Reservations staff at (949) 724-6620. .  For general information or to schedule a walk-through of the facility please call the Nature Center at  (949) 724-6738, or visit our website at www.IrvineOpenSpace.org 


Bounce Houses at City Community Parks
A permit will be required to use an enclosed Bounce House in the City's community parks effective January 1, 2009. The Bounce House company must have a $1,000,000 commercial general liability insurance policy and list the City of Irvine as an "additional" insured. In some instances, the community park must be reserved. Neighborhood parks do not require permits, but restrictions may apply. Vehicles are not permitted to drive on park sites and Bounce Houses are not allowed to be set up on athletic fields. Access to an electrical outlet cannot be guaranteed. Portable generators may be used, but cannot be placed on the grass. Click to view current Bounce House information.

Dance Classes

The City of Irvine offers dance classes throughout the year at various City facilities and also at private facilities throughout the City. Lessons are open to persons of all ages and skill levels and are taught by qualified dance instructors. Group classes are available for beginner, intermediate, and advanced dancers. Classes are 45 minutes to one hour each, for approximately four to twelve weeks. Classes are offered in a wide variety of styles, including: ballet, tap, Jazzercize, hip hop, aerobic, ballroom, swing, country and more. For registration information, contact the City of Irvine, Program Registration, 1 Civic Center Plaza, Irvine, CA 92606 or call (949) 724-6610. Deerfield Community Park

Deerfield Community Park  boasts many amenities including sand volleyball courts, racquetball courts, an 18 hole Disc Golf course, tennis courts and  children's play areas. The recreation building, operated by Community Services staff, includes a small multipurpose room with an attached kitchen as well as a separate craft room.  The park is located at 55 Deerwood West near the corner of Irvine Center Drive and Deerwood, and is open from 9 AM to 9 PM Monday through Saturday and from Noon to 6 PM  on Sunday. Most of the amenities are free and open to the public; however, drop in picnics are limited to groups of fewer than 50. Facility Rental Fees

Facility Reservations

Irvine's Public Facility Reservations Department is located at One Civic Center Plaza, Irvine, on the second floor in the Community Services suite. Operational hours are Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., closed every other Friday. Open Friday hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Community centers with various venues for birthday parties, anniversaries, weddings, reunions, social events, school functions, fundraisers, dances, and picnics are available for rental.  Advance reservations are required. Game Schedules - Adult Leagues

 

Schedules for the City of Irvine's adult sports leagues are distributed and posted on the web once available, and updated when necessary throughout the season.  

 

Schedules typically do not change once they are finalized.  In the event of rain-outs or other circumstances that result in schedule changes, City staff notify team managers of the revised game schedule as soon as it is available.  This notification is made either at the field, by phone or by email.

Irvine Adult Sports

Golf Lessons
The City of Irvine offers golf lessons throughout the year at the Rancho San Joaquin Golf Learning Center located at 1 Ethel Coplen Way in Irvine. Rancho's lessons are open to citizens of all ages and are taught by qualified golf instructors. Group classes are available for beginner players.  Class prices vary and can be found in the City's website. Adult classes are 1-1/2 hours long and youth classes are one hour; both classes run for four weeks. Lessons focus on learning and polishing the basic skills of the set-up, the full swing, chipping, and putting. Range balls and clubs are provided as needed. Harvard Skate Park

Harvard Skate Park skateboarding facility is located at the corner of Harvard and Walnut, adjacent to the Harvard Community Park building.  The skatepark is operated under the supervision of Irvine's Athletic Services staff.  Its many features include the Pyramid, the Spine, the Bowl, Rails, lights for night skating, picnic tables, restrooms and bleachers for spectators.

Heritage Park

Heritage Park Community Center is located at 14301 Yale on the corner of Yale and Walnut. The Heritage Park Complex includes the Heritage Park Community Center, the William Wollett Jr. Aquatics Center, the Irvine Fine Arts Center, the Youth Programs Office, the Child Resource Center and athletic fields. Amenities available to the public include sand volleyball and racquetball courts, outdoor stagesoccer fields, tennis courts, lighted basketball courts, ball diamonds, three pools, two multi-use buildings, amphitheater, barbecues and picnic tables and a group picnic area. The Community Center houses a large multipurpose room and stage with an attached kitchen, a lounge, an arts and craft room, a band practice room, and a game room

Hiking

The City of Irvine's Open Space Section offers a number of guided hikes into the City's 2,137 acre Open Space Preserve - South. These hikes, led by a staff person or trained docent, provide participants with an opportunity to experience nature while learning about plants and animals.  Examples of the guided hikes include: birding programs, geology walks, cardio-hikes, sunset picnic hikes, full-moon hikes, and meditation hikes.  For more information please call (949) 724-6738, or visit our website at www.IrvineOpenSpace.org 


Ice Skating Lessons

The City of Irvine offers ice skating classes throughout the year at the Disney Ice Arena. The Arena is located at 300 West Lincoln in Anaheim. Lessons are available for Tots, Parent and Child, Youth and Adults and are taught by qualified instructors. All classes are beginner level and last 1/2 hour. Fee includes skate rentals, lesson, free practice on day of class and three additional skating passes to be used during the four-week session. For registration information, contact the City of Irvine, Program Registration, 1 Civic Center Plaza, Irvine, CA 92606 or at (949) 724-6610. Lap Swimming

The City of Irvine offers daily adult lap swimming at the William Woollett Junior Aquatics Center located at 4601 Walnut, in Heritage Park, and at the Northwood High School Aquatics Center located at 4515 Portola Parkway, at Northwood High School.  

Lap swimming is offered at Woollett Aquatics Center from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Northwood Aquatics Center holds lap swimming Monday through Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Lap swim is offered at both pools on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. 

Daily admission rates are $4.00 for adults, and $2.00 for seniors over 55. Thirty-visit memberships are $90.00 for adults and $52.50 for seniors over 55. Ninety-visit memberships are $225 for adults and $135 for seniors over 55.  All memberships are non-transferable.  Sorry, no children under the age of 16 will be admitted.

Mountain Bike Rides

The City of Irvine's Open Space Section offers guided mountain bike rides into the City's 2,137 acre Open Space Preserve - South. These rides, led by a staff person or trained docent, provide participants with an opportunity to enjoy the Open Space Preserve while experiencing a moderate to advanced ride of approximately eleven miles.  Participants must wear a helmet and possess above-average mountain biking skills.  Rides are recommended for ages 16 plus.  For more information please call (949) 724-6738,  or visit our website at www.IrvineOpenSpace.org 


MUDD LINE Rainy Day Field Closures

The City of Irvine's  "MUDD LINE" is a recorded phone message detailing the athletic fields that are open and closed due to rainy day weather.  The MUDD LINE also addresses closures to the Central Bark Dog Park.   Call the MUDD LINE  at (949) 724-6833 for an up-to-date account of the field conditions. 

Fields may be closed for additional days following rain dependent on the condition of the fields.  On weekdays, the MUDD LINE may be updated as late as 3 p.m. to allow for drying time and time for staff to work on the fields.  Due to the early morning activities on weekends, staff will make evaluations of the fields early and will update the recording by 7:30 a.m.  Staff will make every effort to open fields when safe and appropriate for use. 


Nature Center
The City of Irvine's Nature Center is located at the base of the San Joaquin Hills in Turtle Rock.  The center serves as a community resource for environmental education and serves as the headquarters for the Open Space staff and all open space programming.  Group tours of the five-acre preserve are offered on a reservation basis.  Other programs include the Kids and Nature nine-month environmental education and enrichment program for kindergarteners, Badge programs for scouts, pre-school nature classes, and volunteer opportunities.  For more information please call (949) 724-6738, or visit our website at www.IrvineOpenSpace.org  

Northwood Community Park

Northwood Community Park is operated and staffed by the City of Irvine Community Services Department. The Park boasts many amenities, including basketball half courts, an outdoor racquetball court, tennis courts, one softball field, shuffleboard decks, soccer fields, an outdoor fitness track, and one playground. The Community building houses a desirable multipurpose room with an attached kitchen as well as a separate craft room.  Northwood Community Park is located at 4531 Bryan Ave and is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Most of the areas are free and open to the public; however drop-in picnics are limited to groups of fewer than 50. Open Space Preserve - South Access

The City of Irvine’s Open Space Preserve - South currently consists of 2,137 acres, and is made up of a mosaic of habitats including wetlands, oak woodlands, and coastal sage scrub and native grasslands. The area houses some of the most biologically diverse ecosystems in the world. This scenic land provides both preservation of critically important plants and wildlife, as well as an area for recreation and respite.  Over the next five years, the southern Open Space Preserve will grow to 4,000 acres.

Open Space Programs

The City's Open Space Services offers a variety of programs on a quarterly basis.  Our activities include guided interpretive hikes, campouts, birding programs, geology walks, cardio-hikes, sunset picnic hikes, full-moon hikes, scout badge programs, summer camps for children K-6th grade, and the nine-month Kids and Nature Environmental Education program offered at the Nature Center for kindergarten children.  For more information please call (949) 724-6738,  or visit our website at www.IrvineOpenSpace.org 


Park Restrooms

The City of Irvine provides and maintains restroom buildings at the majority of the City Parks.  Restroom buildings are opened and closed each day by Community Services staff. 

Staff are scheduled to open restrooms daily, year-round, by 9 a.m.  The facilities are closed at dusk or as appropriate for each site.  If you encounter a locked restroom during the daylight hours, contact Irvine Public Safety at (949) 724-7200.    Public Safety will assist in dispatching staff to open the restrooms as soon as possible.

There are a variety of opportunities to learn about park and recreation facilities and activities, including:  internet updates, the Irvine Quick Reg class regiistration website and various publications. The Irvine Community Services Classes and Activities Brochure, published four times a year, is the most comprehensive source for information regarding upcoming programs and activities. Copies of this publication can be obtained at the Irvine Civic Center, 1 Civic Center Plaza, Irvine, Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and alternating Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The Brochure is also available at the various Community Park sites located throughout the City, local Irvine libraries and the two Irvine Senior Centers. Brochure information can also be downloaded from www.IrvineQuickReg.org  

The City Of Irvine's website is available year-round and includes a complete listing of all the parks, trails, fields, and courts that the Department maintains, along with City of Irvine information, programs and facility reservation procedures. Parks and Recreation Volunteers

Volunteers are always welcome in Community Services. We seek warm and enthusiastic people of all ages to volunteer for a few hours, for a special one-day event, or a few days per week to assist the Community Services Department and fellow citizens at the same time. Picnic Area Reservations
Picnic areas can be reserved at five locations: Northwood Community Park (up to 100 people); Turtle Rock Community Park (up to 200 people; sound restrictions apply); Heritage Community Park (up to 500 people, with special approval); Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park (up to 300 people); and Bommer Canyon (up to 350 people). Fees are charged for community park rental; other requirements/restrictions apply. All other parks are considered neighborhood parks (available on a first-come, first-serve basis for groups of fewer than 50) or association parks (managed through the individual homeowner associations).  To reserve a park picnic area, please call (949) 724-6620, or visit the City's website at www.ci.irvine.ca.us

Public Park Inventory/Amenities

A list of the City’s parks and other facilities and their amenities is available on the City’s Website at www.ci.irvine.ca.us   The listing includes the locations of community and neighborhood parks, their sizes, number and types of playing fields and courts, recreational amenities, and the number of picnic tables and other available picnic amenities.  Scenic vista points, and the special facilities of Bommer Canyon Cattle Camp and Central Bark are also included.  Addresses and phone numbers are listed to enable inquiry on the days and hours of operation of each of the parks. The inventory listing can be printed for future reference.

PLAYER ID CARDS

All players in the league must purchase a Player ID Card to participate in the league.  Fee is $5 per card.  All participants must have their ID Cards at all games (no exceptions).  

 

Player cards can be obtained at the Player ID Card photo sessions.  These photo sessions are listed in the league registration materials.  After these dates, players may obtain a Player ID Card at the Community Services office Monday through Thursday from 9am to 5pm.

Adult Soccer Leagues are forming, call today to register!  Leagues will be operated by Irvine Athletic Services and have been modeled after some of the more successful adult soccer leagues in Southern California.   A variety of leagues and levels are offered for interested teams.

 

To register a team, complete and return a Team Roster and a Team Questionnaire, and submit them to the staff at the Irvine Civic Center.  These forms and the team's league fees are due by the league registration date.

Swim Lessons

The City of Irvine's Learn-To-Swim program offers swimming lessons for all abilities, and ages six months through adult.  Swim lessons are offered year-round at the William Woollett Junior Aquatics Center, and during the summer at the Northwood High School Aquatics Center.  All classes are taught by certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors.  Spring and Fall children's lessons are $40.00 per four-week session.  Classes are offered Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday, and are 25 minutes in length.  Summer children's classes are $50.00 and are offered in two-week sessions, Monday through Friday, with the exception of Ducklings classes, which are one week only.  Classes are 25 minutes in length.  All adult classes are offered either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday and are 50 minutes in length.  For class times and session dates, please visit the website at www.IrvineQuickReg.org  or stop by either pool.  For questions call (949) 724-6717.


Swimming Pools

The City of Irvine operates and maintains two public swimming pool facilities. William Woollett Junior Aquatics Center is located at 4601 Walnut, in Heritage Park, and Northwood High School Aquatics Center is located at 4515 Portola Parkway, at Northwood High School.  

Woollett Aquatics Center sports two side-by-side 50-meter pools and a 25-yard teaching pool.  It is also equiped with family changing rooms, classroom, concession area, one-meter diving boards and three-meter diving boards, as well as men's and women's locker rooms.  Northwood Aquatics Center includes a 50-meter pool with a one-meter diving board, and men's and women's locker rooms. 

Recreational swimming is offered at both pools from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 27-September 2, 2005,  from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays beginning April 2 at Woollett Aquatics Center, and starting July 2 at Northwood Aquatics Center. 

Daily admission rates are $2.00 for children under 17,  $4.00 for adults, and $2.00 for seniors over 55. Thirty-visit memberships are $52.50 for children under 17, $90.00 for adults, and $52.50 for seniors over 55. Memberships are non-transferable.

Tennis Courts

Tennis facilities are operated under the supervision of Irvine's Athletic Services.  A variety of Tennis lessons, leagues and activities have been implemented for the community. 


Although the tennis facilities are utilized by many different organizations, a significant number of courts are available for walk-on use by the public.  A Tennis Court Reservation program is also available for those who wish to use the courts and avoid a wait.

Triathlon Classes
The City of Irvine offers running, swimming and biking classes, providing individuals the chance to improve their workout or train for a triathlon.  Classes meet at the William Woollett Junior Aquatics Center and include a brief lecture, video taping and skills sessions.  All classes are held in the evenings and typically focus on one element at a time. Turtle Rock Community Park

Turtle Rock Community Park is a multi-purpose recreation facility operated and staffed by the Community Services Department. The park area boasts many amenities including a youth softball/soccer field, sand volleyball court, lighted tennis courts, two children's play lots, bicycle and walking paths, an outdoor amphitheater and picnic area.  The community building includes a large multipurpose room with an attached kitchen, a craft room, and a meeting room. The park is located at 1 Sunnyhill, near the corner of Turtle Rock Drive and Sunnyhill and is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Most of the areas are free and open to the public; however, drop-in picnics are limited to groups of fewer than 50. University Community Park

University Community Park is a multipurpose recreation facility operated and staffed by the Community Services Department. The Park boasts many amenities, including: sand volleyball and handball courts, an 18 hole Disc Golf course, tennis courts, children's play areas and a picnic shelter gazebo with adjacent athletic fields used for soccer and softball. The building has a multipurpose room with an attached kitchen, as well as a separate craft room.  The park is located at 1 Beech Tree Lane near the corner of Lexicon and Sandburg, and is open from 9 AM to 9 PM Monday through Saturday and from noon to 6 PM  on Sunday. Most areas are free and open to the public; however, drop-in picnics are limited to groups of fewer than 50. Water Aerobics

Water Aerobics are offered year-round at the William Woollet Junior Aquatics Center.  Classes are appropriate for both new and long-time water fitness participants. Weekday morning classes are low impact, while evening classes are geared toward the intermediate level. These classes offer a fun, fast paced workout guaranteed to shape you up with no stress on the back or knees.  Cardio conditioning is followed by total body resistance work and toning.

 

Classes are offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Class fee is $7 for drop-in, or sign up for a session and pay $5 per class.  For more information call (949) -724-6717 or visit www.ci.irvine.ca.us/depts/cs/aquatics/water_aerobics.
