Public Works Divisions Public Works contributes to the accomplishment of the goals outlined in the City's Strategic Business Plan through a structure that includes ten divisions. They are:

The Administrative Division establishes Department goals consistent with the City's Strategic Business Plan, sets priorities, provides Council and Commission support, coordinates department-wide activities regarding policy, human resources, budget, technology needs, and community outreach.
Development Engineering - Review & Approval of Development Plans for Public Infrastructure pursuant to City Specifications

This Public Works Division ensures all construction in street and park right-of-way complies with adopted codes and engineering standards.
Traffic Engineering & Circulation - Irvine Traffic Research and Control Center Operations & Signal Timing
- Signal Operations & Maintenance
This Public Works Division provides for the management, operation, preventive maintenance, and repair of City owned traffic signal equipment and operates the Irvine Traffic Research and Control Center-ITRAC.
Transportation Planning & Project Development - Project Development Circulation (Securing Outside Funding and Preliminary Design in Support of Capital Improvement Projects)

This Public Works Division plans, funds and advances the development and maintenance of an integrated and high quality transportation system consistent with City policies and priorities using maximum outside revenues. This Division operates the Irvine Station. High speed rail, alternative fueled vehicles, shuttle systems are examples of various alternatives being studied in the area of advanced transportation concepts. Project Management

This Public Works Division administers the design, construction, and inspection of publicly funded facilities and infrastructure.
Landscape Maintenance - Community Parks

This Public Works Division provides all the landscape maintenance for streetscapes, parks (excluding facilities), open space, athletic fields, and Eucalyptus Windrows.
Street Maintenance - Pavement Maintenance (Asphalt Repair)
- Infrastructure Cleaning (Sweeping & Litter Abatement)
- Public Drainage (Storm Drains)
- Concrete Maintenance (Sidewalks, curbs, gutters)
- Traffic Safety & Special Events (Sign & Pavement Marking Installation & Repair)
This Public Works Division is responsible for the maintenance of asphalt roadways, bike trails, public parking lots, concrete sidewalks, walkways, access ramps, curbs & gutters, storm water drainage infrastructure, traffic control signs & pavement messages & striping, street sweeping, litter control, and special event assistance.
Development Review - Forecast & Analysis (Irvine Transportation Analysis Model and Irvine Business Complex)

This Division ensures that General Plan Circulation Element goals and objectives pertaining to travel modes such as vehicular, pedestrians, bicycles, riding & hiking trails, and transit are considered with new developments.
This Division maintains the Irvine Transportation Analysis Model (ITAM) and explores transportation alternatives designed to increase traffic flow and mitigate congestion. Fiscal & Environmental Programs- Budget, Purchasing, & Finance

- National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Administration
- Waste Management & Recycling
This Division provides fiscal and budgetary support to the Department as it monitors the Special and General Fund budgets. It also administers the waste management contract for the City and promotes renewable resource practices through education and community outreach focusing on pollution prevention, energy conservation, reuse, reduced use and recycling. Fleet Services - Vehicle Maintenance

- Fuel Depot Maintenance
Fleet Services maintains the City's motorized vehicles including heavy equipment such as dump trucks and street sweepers. It also maintains the fuel island facilities at the Operations Support Facility and Civic Center insuring compliance with all environmental and air quality regulations. Fleet Services provides maintenance for other City equipment such as power generators. Closing The Public Works Department makes sure that what we plant looks green and healthy; what you drive, walk and bike on is safe and clean; and what we build (from storm drains to streets) is solid and secure. We also plan for future transportation needs and find non-city funds to meet those needs. We keep Irvine's traffic signals working and do our very best to help you get from here to there, safely. |
