Marlan Globerson Before focusing on her professional career as a portrait artist, Marlan Globerson taught printmaking and photography at the high school and college levels. She has conducted photographic workshops in the US and Mexico, and has worked as a photojournalist, medical photographer, and freelance commercial photographer for corporate clients including Del Webb and Random House Inc. Since 1983, Globerson has shared her technical darkroom skills and knowledge with working photographers, artists, and photography students at the Irvine Fine Arts Center, where she initiated the Darkroom Open Studio Program. Globerson's archival black and white Character Studies have been exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, Virginia Museum of Art, Laguna Beach Art Museum, and art galleries in Chicago and Orange County, CA. Mike Brock Mike is an accomplished wildlife photographer specializing in underwater photography. He also provides photographic services for the aerospace and automotive industries. His images have been marketed worldwide. Mike gives instruction in digital photography. Suzy Skaar Suzy has many years of experience teaching our Polaroid transfer workshops. She has a Master of Fine Arts in photography and also teaches at Long Beach City College. She earned a Lifetime California Teaching Credential in 1989 and has extensive experience in commercial lighting, color theory, printing techniques, and photographic lab technology. Suzy will show participants how to artistically manipulate images from their own 35mm slides. Look for her image and emulsion transfer workshops each quarter.
Ed Andrews Ed is a professional photographer who has been profiled on KTLA-TV. His images have been featured in national publications. Ed’s Location Photography workshop is a great way for digital and analog photographers alike to learn and practice shooting photographs of people in the outdoors. The workshop lasts four hours and includes lighting, posing, and establishing a rapport with the model. This is a hands-on workshop in the park area outside the Fine Arts Center. Larry Wiese Larry has been involved with professional photography for nearly forty years. His innovative photography is represented by several galleries and is in the collections of patrons in the U.S. and Europe. Larry teaches our Markets For Fine Art Photography workshop. His class topics include evaluating your fine art images, marketing your images to galleries, photo publishing markets, and other opportunities. Maclay Burt Mac Burt has been a plein air black and white photographer for over thirty years. He has studied at UCI as well as with noted photographers including John Sexton and Bruce Barnbaum. He is represented by Santa Ana’s Calafia Gallery. Mac is also a longtime volunteer in the IFAC photography darkroom. His Sharpen Your Focus workshop is a great class for beginning digital or analog photographers. All the basics are presented, basic composition, lighting, exposure, flash, group shots, and more. The workshop includes and outdoor photo shoot in the park to test what you have learned. Mac also teaches a workshop called The Black and White Master Print. Learn techniques in our well-equipped darkroom that will take your images to fine art quality.Pam Chant Pam teaches classes for both adults and children. She has exhibited at the Muckenthaler Center and is an art instructor at Sonora High School. Her experience in hand tinting photographs has lead her to teach a workshop in this process here at the Fine Arts Center. Hand-Tinting Photos is taught here each quarter. Pam provides black and white Italian, French, and UK architectural and landscape photographs for participants to learn the process with. She also provides instruction in Silk Painting here at IFAC. He meticulously maintains the darkroom and attracts darkroom users of all ages and abilities from across the county. Warren’s technical experience spans many years and includes the Orange Coast College photo darkroom, as well as photo-documentation of events here at IFAC. He has recently begun taking digital images for our publications. He teaches our Darkroom Refresher class, a great way to brush up on your photography darkroom skills. This review class qualifies participants to use the IFAC darkroom during Open Studio hours. The refresher class is offered two to three times per quarter.Amy Travis, IFAC Photography Technician Amy also works in our darkroom and studio. She also provides photo-documentation for the Art Center as needed. She has previously been a darkroom volunteer prior to her assignment as the second photo technician. Amy is skilled in photography as well as darkroom techniques. She teaches our Basic Studio Lighting class. This class covers information on the use of strobes and continuous light sources (hot lights) in a studio setting to photograph people. Patrons learn basic information on lighting equipment and its use in simple set-ups. Look for the studio lighting classes, offered two to three times each quarter.
