News Image The Great Outdoors Close to Home
The City of Irvine will celebrate 20 years of protecting and preserving Irvine’s open space at Bommer Canyon Cattle Camp on Saturday, June 7, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The milestone 1988 Open Space Initiative preserves Irvine’s natural splendor through the protection of parks, trails and wilderness areas. This free, public event will include entertainment, barbeque, nature hikes, and exhibits. 

News Image Memorial Day Tribute and Rememberance
The City of Irvine is holding a special Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 26 from 10-11:30 a.m. at  Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park, to commemorate the men and women who have given their lives in defense of our nation and the ideals we cherish.  Join us in memorializing their noble sacrifice by honoring a family member or friend who has died in the line of duty by writing down a brief remembrance to be posted on a memory board at the event.

Join the American Cancer Society’s fight to end cancer by participating in the 8th annual Relay for Life of Irvine on June 7 and 8 at Irvine Valley College.

News Image Apply Now for the Great Park Ambassador Program!
The Orange County Great Park Corporation is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for the 2008 Orange County Great Park Ambassador Program.  Ambassadors will have an opportunity to conduct community presentations and work as docents at the Great Park Balloon and other special events.

This program will provide an excellent opportunity for members of the community to contribute toward the development of the Great Park. Please click here to apply to become an Ambassador by May 15, 2008.

More than 60 community partners from the Irvine Prevention Coalition will join together on Saturday, May 17, 2008 to show their support of local public safety, and health and wellness organizations. The annual Irvine Family Fun Fair starts at 9 a.m. with the Fair continuing until 1 p.m. at the Irvine Civic Center.

News Image New Cell Phone Use in Vehicles Starts July 1, 2008
Effective July 1, 2008, the legislation prohibits drivers from using a wireless telephone while operating a motor vehicle unless the driver uses a hands-free device. Drivers who violate the law will face a base fine of $20 for a first offense and $50 for each subsequent offense.
