Irvine City Council Adopts the Irvine Democracy Project: Vote 2008
to Encourage Greater Civic and Voter Participation
As part of the recently adopted Irvine Democracy Project, the City of Irvine and the Orange County Registrar of Voters have partnered to provide residents with information regarding the three elections in 2008: the Presidential Primary in February, the Primary Election for all other candidates in June, and the General Election in November.
Democracy Needs Participation
There are three opportunities for voters to exercise their right to vote in 2008. The first two elections in February and June are Statewide Primary Elections. February is dedicated solely to presidential candidates, while candidates running for county and state races will appear on the June ballot. In addition, the Irvine City Council called a Special City Election to place Measure H on the June 3, 2008 ballot. The Special Election will be held concurrently with the Statewide Primary Election on June 3. Click here to learn more about Measure H. The general election in November is when you will vote on local measures and initiatives, as well as National, State, County and local elected officials.
Early Voting In Irvine
The City of Irvine encourages residents to consider vote-by-mail and early voting. The Irvine Civic Center and the University of California Irvine are designated as the early voting sites for both the June 3 Special City Election/Statewide Primary and November 4, 2008 General Election. Orange County residents are invited to bring their sample ballots to any early voting site in the county; locations are posted at http://www.ocvote.com/vote/votearlyenglish.htm. For early voting dates, see table below or contact the City Clerk's Office at (949)724-6205.
How Do I Get Involved?
Register to vote! Registration forms are available at libraries, community centers and the Irvine Civic Center, located on the corner of Harvard and Alton Parkway. Partial registration is available online at www.ocvote.com/vote/howtoregister.htm after completing the online registration, you will be mailed a paper form to sign and return. The Orange County Registrar of Voters is always seeking volunteers to staff the polls on Election Day. Visit www.ocvote.com/volunteer to find out if you qualify.
