Housing Successor to the Irvine Redevelopment Agency

The California State Legislature passed and Governor Brown signed Assembly X1 26 dissolving redevelopment agencies throughout the State of California in 2011. The California Supreme Court upheld the legislation and set a dissolution date of February 1, 2012 when all redevelopment agency activities were suspended, including the Irvine Redevelopment Agency. Prior to dissolution, on January 10, 2012, the Irvine City Council elected to become the Housing Successor to the Irvine Redevelopment Agency and retain all housing assets and functions.

Although redevelopment agencies have been dissolved, state law mandates that certain documents related to affordable housing activities must continue to be provided on the City’s website. This includes the Affordable Housing Database (per Assembly Bill 987) and the City’s Housing Successor Annual Report to the State Department of Housing and Community Development for the Low and Moderate Income Housing Asset Fund (per Senate Bill 341).
