Visit the Powerful Ideas Symposium at the Solar Decathlon 2013 and XPO

IRVINE, CA (October 9, 2013):  The U.S. Department of Energy 2013 and XPO Powerful Ideas Symposium continues through this weekend, October 10-13, at the Orange County Great Park.

Highlighting useful and innovative ideas related to clean, renewable, efficient energy and its connection to our everyday lives, the Symposium features speakers and guest panelists from Bank of America, the American Society of Landscape Architects, Building Industry Association Orange County, U.S. Green Building Council, Southern California Edison, UCI and many more.

Mayor Steven S. Choi, Ph.D. will join panelists representing the American Society of Landscape Architects at noon on Sunday, October 13 to discuss “Sustainable Urban Futures.” Other topics include “Smart Buildings, Smart People” presented by Bank of America, at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 10. Also at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 10, the Building Industry Association, Orange County Chapter, presents “Production Homebuilding: Navigating Energy Codes and Buyer Demand on the Path to Zero Net Energy.” Panelists include executives from KB Home, Brookfield Residential and Meritage Homes.

The Solar Decathlon 2013 and XPO is free and open to the public. Parking is $5. For more information, visit

The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon is an award-winning program that challenges collegiate teams from across the nation and around the world to design, build and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient and attractive. During the two weekends in October, visitors will have the opportunity to tour the Solar Village and houses.

The XPO is a clean, renewable and efficient energy exposition, featuring visionary and innovative companies, products and educational opportunities. Through fun, interactive exhibits and activities, the XPO will offer children and adults the opportunity to learn about the broad spectrum of energy efficiency.
