IRVINE, CA (August 14, 2009): A suspect has died of a self inflicted gunshot wound shortly after committing a robbery at an Irvine Bank.
The incident began at 2:02 PM, August 14, 2009 when police received a 911 call of a robbery in progress at the Bank of America, 13244 Jamboree Road in Irvine. The bank in question borders the City of Tustin and Irvine, therefore both Tustin Police and Irvine Police responded to the crime.
Tustin and Irvine Officers arrived within minutes of the call and surrounded the location. When the suspect exited the bank, the police began giving him orders to surrender. The suspect was seen raising a handgun to his head and shooting himself. Paramedics were summoned and the suspect was transported to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead sometime later.
There were no other suspects apparently involved. Money from the robbery and the suspect weapon were recovered at the scene. The suspect has no identification.
No other persons were injured.
