FATAL TRAFFIC COLLISION

IRVINE, CA (August 15, 2009):  Irvine Police are investigating an automobile versus pedestrian traffic collision which occurred on Thursday, August 13, 2009.  The pedestrian died on Friday, August 14, 2009 as a result of his injuries.  

The collision occurred shortly after 3:00 PM at the intersection of Barranca Parkway and West Yale Loop.   Irvine Police responded to the report of an injury traffic collision.  Preliminary investigation revealed that a Blue Hyundai Accent was traveling south on West Yale Loop and struck a pedestrian (Mr. Panahi) at the intersection of Barranca Parkway.   Mr. Panahi was knocked to the ground sustaining severe injuries.  Orange County Fire personnel responded and provided first aid to the victim.  Mr. Panahi was transported to a local hospital.  On Friday, August 14, Irvine Police were notified that Mr. Panahi died.

The driver of the vehicle, an adult female resident of Irvine was alone in the vehicle.  The pedestrian has been identified as 75-year-old Seyedf-Aliakbar Panahi of Irvine Mr. Panahi was alone at the time of the collision.

The cause of this collision has not yet been determined, as the investigation is ongoing.   Anyone who witnessed this event is asked to contact Detective Jonathan Cherney at (949) 724-7024.
