IRVINE, CA (November 13, 2013):  Irvine Police Detectives are investigating the death of a person discovered in a vehicle along the San Diego Creek.  The discovery was made this morning at approximately 9:20 a.m. when a jogger in the area of Michelson Drive and Harvard Avenue noticed a burned vehicle in the creek bed.  When he approached to check on the vehicle, he could see that there was a deceased occupant inside the vehicle.

Preliminary investigation has not produced any evidence of a collision.  Although near a well-traveled intersection, the area itself is concealed from view by natural barriers. The area of the San Diego Creek where the vehicle was located is only accessible via Riparian View, an access road to the nearby water district and wildlife sanctuary.

Irvine Police Detectives as well as the Orange County Coroner’s Office have responded to the scene and are conducting an investigation into the death. The person’s identity has not yet been determined and will not be released until such time as the next of kin can be located and notified.

The Irvine Police are asking anyone with information to call 949-724-7000.
