IRVINE, CA (April 2, 2013):  On April 1, 2013, at approximately 11:20 p.m., Irvine Police detectives arrested Karen Kovacs (8-18-87) and Tyler Kovacs (4-9-86) of Costa Mesa for robbery and conspiracy. The couple are residents of Costa Mesa. However, they are known to frequently stay in long-term type motels in various cities.  Detectives located them last night in a motel in Yorba Linda.

The robbery occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Monday evening when Tyler Kovacs approached a victim and asked to borrow his iPhone inside a coffee shop at Alton Parkway and Jeffrey Road in Irvine.  The victim agreed but when Tyler Kovacs tried to run out of the shop with the phone, the victim pursued him and a physical altercation took place.  Tyler Kovacs fled in an awaiting vehicle, driven by Karen Kovacs.

During the course of the investigation, the Kovacs were also linked to a residential burglary in Irvine from March 28.  In that case, the victim pulled her car into her attached garage, leaving the garage door open and car unlocked. She went inside the house for a moment and when she returned she found Tyler Kovacs inside her vehicle.  He ran away prior to being able to take anything and fled in an awaiting vehicle registered to and driven by Karen Kovacs.

Both Tyler and Karen Kovacs were arrested for robbery, burglary and conspiracy and booked in to the Orange county Jail. Kevin Kovacs was also arrested for a no bail probation warrant.  Karen Kovacs’ bail was set at $50,000.
