On Thursday, December 6, 2012, the Irvine Police Department participated in the 7th annual ‘Shop with a Cop’ event. Each year, just before the holidays, police personnel meet mothers and children who have been displaced from their homes by family violence to help bring them a spark of holiday cheer.
This year, police employees teamed with Target team members to shop for gifts, fulfilling the wish lists created by the children in these difficult situations. The gifts were purchased with donated gift cards from Target’s, ‘Heroes and Helpers’ grant and a cash donation from Stonefire Grill in Irvine. The gifts were distributed at a party, catered by Stonefire Grill and hosted by the Irvine Police Department.
Over 40 children participated this year and there was a special guest appearance by Santa Claus to help police personnel deliver each child’s gifts. Activities and photos with Santa rounded out the evening shared by the families and the more that 30 officers who volunteered their time and contributed to the gift giving.
This event is made possible through a longstanding partnership between Team Kids, Inc., Human Options, and the Irvine Police Department, and is made successful by the generous support of Target and Stonefire Grill.
