IRVINE, CA (June 3, 2009): Irvine Police have arrested a Stanton man in connection with a residential robbery.
Shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday June 3, 2009 Irvine Police were summoned to a residence in the 100 block of Del Carlo regarding a residential robbery that had just occurred. Information was that a man had entered a residence through an open garage and robbed the female resident at gunpoint, demanding that she give him money. The victim complied with the suspect’s demand and gave him forty dollars from her purse. At about this same time the victim’s husband arrived home from running an errand in the area. When the husband walked in the residence the suspect pointed his gun at the man and directed him back out of the residence, while the suspect followed. Once outside the suspect fled on foot.
Irvine officers arrived on scene within minutes, at which time a systematic search of the area was conducted. K-9 units from the Irvine Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, as well as a Sheriff’s helicopter, assisted in searching the area. While the search was underway a citizen in the area called the police to report a suspicious person. Subsequently, officers conducting the search responded to the 500 block of Cardiff and located the suspicious person, who was identified as the robbery suspect. The suspect was arrested without further incident.
The area around the suspect was searched by an Irvine Police K-9 and a semi-automatic handgun and ammunition magazine were located in the bushes. Additionally, the suspect had two twenty dollar bills in his possession, which was the same amount of money and the same denominations that had been stolen from the female victim. No one was injured during this incident.
At the request of Irvine Police, an area elementary school was locked down for about an hour and a half during the event.
