Youth Action Team

The Middle School Program Youth Action Team (YAT) is an after-school community service based program where students have an opportunity to be actively involved in their community. YAT is a great way for students to learn new skills, experience new challenges, make new friends and discover they have what it takes to make a difference in their community

When does YAT meet?

YAT meetings are held on campus Mondays immediately after-school for approximately an hour. Each Wednesday after school, selected YAT participants volunteer in off-site service projects for approximately 2-3 hours. Information sheets will be handed out at Monday meetings and emailed home to let parents know about the Wednesday project. Not all students will be able to attend every Wednesday project due to van capacity, but the coordinators make sure all regular attending students are equally involved in the off-site opportunities. The Site Coordinators transport students in City vans and possess a passenger endorsed license. Students will be transported to and from school for all off-site projects.

Four YAT Volunteer Service Areas

• Irvine Animal Care Center
• Hemopet (Greyhound rescue shelter)
• Friends of the Sea Lions Rescue Facility
• Santa Ana Zoo

• Beach Clean-Ups
• Turtle Rock Nature Center

How to Join?

All your child has to do is show up to one of the Monday YAT meetings at any time during the school year. Participant Permission/Emergency Forms will handed out for first time participants and must be filled out by a parent before participants can sign up to volunteer for the off-site projects.
