 | Class Descriptions Infant & Toddler Swimming Program Ages 6 – 36 months
Ducklings This class exposes the child and parent to water orientation focusing on achieving a high level of comfort in and around water. The parent will be instructed in basic skills that will aid the child’s learning of elementary swimming skills. Parent/adult required in water with child.
Little Fish Swimming Program Ages 3 – 6 Years Starfish, Sea Dragon, Seahorse, Sea Lions & Sharks Children will be placed into these groups based on swimming ability. Class content closely follows the skills listed for Hippos, Turtles and Eels. Children may switch groups (Starfish, Seahorse, Sea Lion or Shark) to ensure they are with others of similar ability. If your child turns 6 and you would like to move to the Big Fish Program, please sign up for Turtles or Eels.
Little Eels Children should be able to complete one length (25 yards) of the following: freestyle with rotary breathing, backstroke, elementary backstroke; and 10 yards of breaststroke and butterfly kick. Child must have completed 1 session of the Little Fish: Sharks to enroll in this level.
Big Fish Swimming Program Ages 6 – 13 Hippos For children with little or no swimming experience. Skills include: water entry, floating, flutter kicking, and arm action plus basic pool safety. Most children only need to take this course once. Turtles Children must possess skills from the previous leven and swim 10 yards without support. Skills taught include: freestyle with side breathing, backstroke, butterfly kick, breaststroke kick, and elementary backstroke plus some water safety skills. Most children take this course 2-3 times.Eels Children must be able to swim freestyle with side breathing, backstroke, and elementary backstroke for 25 yards. Instruction focuses on endurance with backstroke and freestyle, master freestyle side breathing, and build on butterfly and elementary backstroke. Breastroke, sidestroke, and turning at the wall will be introduced. Most children take this course 2-3 times. Dolphins Instructor is no longer required in the water. Children must be able to swim freestyle and backstroke efficiently for two lengths of the pool (50 yards) and have basic swimming knowledge of the 4 competitive strokes and 2 resting strokes. Instruction focuses on the coordination and refinement of all the strokes and increase distance. Most children take this course 2-3 times. Marlins Instructor is no longer required in the water. Student must be able to complete a minimum of 4 laps (100 yards) of freestyle and backstroke and 2 laps (50 yards) of all other strokes correctly. Instruction focuses on building endurance in all strokes, and establishing proper stroke technique, allowing them to complete a 100 yard Individual Medley.
Super Shrimp Squad
Ages 7-13 Children must be able to swim 4 laps (100 yards) of freestyle and backstroke, 2 laps (50 yards) of breaststroke and butterfly, as well as swim 20 laps continuously. Instruction includes swim workouts to improve conditioning. Prices are the same as the 4-week adult class.
Synchronized Swimming Ages 7-13 Try something new and exciting this summer. Imagine a dancers artistic flair, the power and strength of a water polo player, the lung capacity of a long distance swimmer. Now add to that a combination of grace, fluidity and synchronization...now that's synchronized swimming! Class runs Monday through Thursday for 25 minutes for Intro to Synchro and 40 minutes for Intro to Competitive Synchro. Offered in the Summer season only.
Learn to Dive Program Ages 7-13 Learn the proper diving techniques off the one and three meter springboards! The Lean to Dive Program offers beginning, intermediate, and advanced level courses. Class runs Monday - Thursday in the Summer season only. Each class is 45 minutes.
Adult Swimming Program Ages 14 and Up Appropriate for ages 14 and up, ranging from no swimming experience to limited swimming background. Instruction to focus on individual water instruction in a group setting based on learning interests. Class runs Mon/Wed or Tue/thu for 40 minutes.
Private/Semi-Private Lessons Ages 6 months to 99 years Private lessons are limited and are offered one-on-one or up to two participants in a class. The person requesting the semi-private class is responsible for finding the additional participant. Classes are scaled to the participant's skill level.
