City of Irvine Day at Anteater Ballpark set for May 3

Tuesday, April 30, 2024

The University of California, Irvine, is partnering with the City of Irvine to host City of Irvine Day at Anteater Ballpark on May 3. Residents are invited to watch the UCI baseball team take on the Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, while celebrating the relationship between the City and the university.

"As Mayor, I'm thrilled to see our city embrace the spirit of unity through the universal language of baseball,” said Mayor Farrah N. Khan. UCI Baseball Day not only celebrates our love for the game but also fosters community bonds that transcend boundaries. Let's swing for the fences and make this day a home run for every fan, player, and supporter of the sport!"

The UC Irvine Anteaters baseball team has had 35 winning seasons since the program began in 1965. This includes several years of outstanding performance, such as in 2007, when the team advanced to the College World Series, and in 2021 when they won the Big West Conference championship. The team has also produced numerous successful players who have gone on to play professionally in the major leagues.

“The City of Irvine has always been an impactful supporter of the campus and the Anteater family,” said Athletic Director Paula Smith. “UC Irvine Athletics is excited to put on another successful City of Irvine Day at Anteater Ballpark for a third straight year and recognize our great community.”

The event will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Anteater Ballpark’s Cicerone Field. Discounted tickets for both general-admission grass seating and home-plate reserved seating are available at uicirvinesports.com/irvine.
